The OIG is an independent office that reports to the TBCJ, with the Inspector General reporting directly to the TBCJ chairman. The OIG investigators are certified peace officers, as authorized by Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, Article 2.12 and licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). What We Do The OIG investigates allegations of criminal activity and misconduct that have an impact on TDCJ programs, personnel and resources, including allegations of waste, fraud, abuse. The OIG furthers its law enforcement efforts through task force partnerships with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and the United States Marshals Service. These partnerships bind a commitment of sharing information and reinforce a law enforcement allegiance when dealing with escapees, fugitives, parolees, and organized prison gangs. Philosophy The OIG is responsive to the needs of the TBCJ, the TDCJ, governmental agencies, and the people of Texas by demonstrating a willingness and ability to impartially investigate administrative and criminal complaints, while protecting the rights of all persons involved. The OIG, will at all times, be truthful, ethical, and accountable, emphasizing effective communications, timeliness of investigations and teamwork. Integrity The OIG management demands excellence in the quality of its investigations, stressing independence, professionalism, and honor. The OIG performs its fundamental duties with fairness, compassion, and respect, while seeking justice through the unyielding pursuit to identify, apprehend, and prosecute transgressors, and ensuring the Constitutional Rights of all people.
